Sunday 28th November

10.15am-12.30pm:
GREEN Student Oboe: Intermediate Performance Class with Rachel Broadbent
We welcome back BDRD regular and favourite teacher Rachel Broadbent to take performance classes this season. First up, students aged up to 18 and grades 4-6 who are invited to prepare a piece to play to the class and work on with Rachel.

10.30-12.45pm:
GREEN Student Bassoon: Intermediate Performance Class with Bob Porter
Artistic Director of the BDRZ Bob Porter leads this performance class for which participants are invited to prepare a piece. In his inimitable teaching style, Bob will get straight to the heart of the matter and work wonders on both the basics and the nitty-gritty! For students up to age 18 and grades 4-6.

1.15-2.15pm:
PURPLE Adult Oboe Short Workshop: Oboe Maintenance and Reed Care
Julia White returns to the BDRZ with this specially devised session devoted to instruments and reed care. She will introduce adult oboists of all standards to the basics of oboe maintenance including oiling the bore, keeping keywork in good order and cleaning the instrument and will also have tips for prolonging the life of reeds.

1.30-2.30pm:
PURPLE Adult Bassoon Short Workshop: Reed Adjustment and Problem Solving
Fab bassoonist, reedmaker and BDRD regular, Rosie Cow, shares her expertise on adjusting your reeds to get the most out of them. Participants are invited to come armed with some dodgy reeds to work on, and questions too, if they like.

Sunday 5th December

10.15am-12.30pm:
ORANGE Student Oboe Advanced Performance Class with Rachel Broadbent
Advanced student oboists working at grade 7 and above are invited to prepare a piece to perform to the class and work on with Rachel who will help with preparation for exams, auditions, performance or just for fun.

10.30am-12.45pm:
ORANGE Student Bassoon Advanced Performance Class with Fraser Gordon
Fraser Gordon is contrabassoonist with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and recently appointed Head of Wind at the Royal Academy of Music. This is a fantastic opportunity to prepare a piece (or section of a piece) to play to him and gain an insight into what he is looking for in auditions and performances. For grade 7+.

1.15-2.15pm:
GREEN Student Oboe Short Workshop: Perfecting the Tricky Bits
Julia White will share practice tips to make your oboe sing and your fingers fly with exercises to improve different aspects of technique and sound. Participants are welcome to bring a difficult passage they are currently working on if there is something in particular they would like help with. For students grades 4-6.

1.30-2.30pm:
GREEN Student Bassoon Short Workshop: Practice Tips
Manager of the BDRD, Rosie Burton, dons her other hat as bassoonist and teacher to lead this class designed to help intermediate students with their practice. She will have strategies for learning hard phrases, exercises focussing on specific aspects of technique and suggestions to help plan and prioritise practice sessions. Participants are invited to bring along any sections they are struggling with or questions about practice.

Sunday 12th December

10.15am-12.30pm:
PURPLE Adult Oboe Performance Class with Rachel Broadbent
A chance for adult oboists of all abilities to play to Rachel Broadbent who will listen, tweak, help and encourage.

10.30am-12.45pm:
PURPLE Adult Bassoon Performance Class with Bob Porter
Adult bassoonists of all standards are invited to prepare a piece or passage of music to perform to the class and then work on with Bob.

1.15-2.15pm:
ORANGE Student Oboe Short Workshop: Oboe Maintenance and Reed Care
As 1.15pm on 28th November, but for student oboists up to the age of 18 and working at grade 7+.

1.30-2.30pm:
ORANGE Student Bassoon Short Workshop: Improve your Sound
Bob Porter leads this class on one of his favourite topics, sound. He will explore the fundamentals of breathing, blowing, support and embouchure to improve tone quality, dynamic range and flexibility of colour. For bassoonists aged up to 18 and working at grade 7 and above.
